5 Easy Birthday Cakes

Birthday cakes a focal point of any birthday, and the following are a few great ideas for easy birthday cakes:

1. Dump Truck

This is a cute, simple cake sure to please the little boy who loves trucks. Start with a loaf of pound cake. Cut the back down so that it slants like a dump truck would. Use the cut off pieces to create the front of the dump truck. You will want to ice it with red frosting. Use a few chocolate donuts as wheels, and then decorate the truck using M&Ms other candy to make headlights and other details for the truck. Fill the back with crushed cookies, pretzel sticks and other treats.

2. Pizza Cake

This is a fun, great tasting birthday cake. Start with a round cake, and ice the edges to resemble a pizza crust. Then ice the center with red icing to mimic pizza sauce. Then use various candies to represent pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, and other toppings. Then, grate white chocolate on top of the cake to resemble cheese. It is the perfect complement to a pizza party for a birthday, keeping with the theme. It tastes great too!

3. Monkey

This is a fun birthday cake for children. Start with a nine inch round cake and cut the top and sides some to shape the face. Then, use two chocolate covered doughnuts to create the monkey's ears. Ice the monkey face with brown chocolate icing. Then, create a mouth using some vanilla frosting on the bottom half of the cake. Use two Oreos or peppermint patties for the eyes. Use chocolate sprinkles on the top half to create 'hair' for the monkey. Then, use some chocolate licorice sticks make a few hairs stick up at the top of the hair.

4. Spider Cake

A fun cake for a birthday is a spider cake. To make this cake start by icing a round cake with white icing. Then, use black icing and a piping bag to create a web on the top of the cake. From there, take a chocolate truffle and insert it into the cake. It is the body of the spider. Then use a malt ball as the head. Create spider legs using pretzels, runts or licorice. Use some icing to put mini chocolate chips on the malt ball to make eyes.

5. Turtle

Another easy birthday cake is a turtle. Again, start with a round cake. Ice it with green icing. Use fruit chews, flattened out and shaped like the parts of a turtle shell to create the shell. Use snack cakes to make the legs of the turtle and either make a tail out of candy pieces or use icing. Then create the turtle's head using a cupcake and frost it. Then use M&M's to make the eyes of the turtle.
