For most of human history it was a real achievement for a child to live past their first year. As a result, first birthday parties have been important times of celebration for both parents and children. Once a child has survived their first year there is a much better chance that they will live into adulthood and be healthy. Although we do not share the same concerns about infant health that our ancestors did, it is still very important to recognize a child’s first birthday. The infant clearly does not understand what is happening while their 1st birthday party is going on; however, for their parents it is a special occasion. A 1st birthday party gives friends and family a chance to come together and welcome the new person into their lives. It provides them a chance to give gifts that will help the child to grow and develop.
If you are about to throw a 1st birthday party you should consider different themes for the party. But what kind of themes go well with a 1st birthday? The child does not have any particular hobby or interest besides sleeping, eating and going to the bathroom. Obviously none of these things will make for a good party theme. Because you will probably have other young children at your birthday party a great theme involves animals and baby animals. All children love animals and especially puppies and kittens. Your baby might not have much to say or think about animals but the other children will. The animal theme will also be appropriate for adults who commonly associate little children with baby animals.
Select a few baby animals and build your theme around them. I recommend that you use puppies, kittens or baby dinosaurs. Most party supply stores have plenty of great cartoon animal cutouts for your party decorations. Along with these you should generally decorate with light colors. Use a combination of blues and pinks, as well as white for decoration colors. Obtain some pictures of the animals you would like to use and put them on display.
The signature of any birthday party is the famous birthday cake. Because your birthday party is themed around an animal or set of animals you should theme the cake similarly. This can be done by either drawing the image of the animal in the frosting or by shaping the cake like the animal. The cake is one of the most important details–if you are going to spend money on the party the cake is the place to do it.
Another great party decoration is the pinata. Most party stores that sell pinatas sell them in animal shapes. The pinata is especially good for parties with many small children, but they can work well for parties with adults as well. Pinatas create some excitement and provide a great decoration. When the pinata breaks everyone gets a prize.
A great way to decorate for an animal themed party is with stuffed animals. Stuffed animals are welcoming and usually look like baby animals. They will also make for fun play things for any children that come to the party.
As you can see, there are lots of great ideas for animal themed 1st birthday parties. Brainstorm with your spouse, friends or family to come up with other great ideas. A well planned 1st birthday party will give everyone an opportunity to show their support for your child. An appropriate theme sets the perfect tone for the party. Animals and baby animals will help everyone appreciate the significance of the event.
