Goodies are a very important part of any birthday party. As all parents know, birthday parties can be very difficult to plan and host, in large part because kids expect a lot from their parents when it comes to birthday parties. A birthday party is a very important event in the life of a child as it is the one time when people get together to celebrate the child and their life. Unlike most of the child’s life when they feel like no one listens to them or asks them for help, their birthday is their day and, because of this, they get to make some of the decisions.
The child is the center of attention for a few hours. It is thus extremely important to make this a fun time for them and for their friends. Remember that a birthday party is nothing unless the child’s friends come and have a good time. You can make or break your child’s social future with the success or failure of a birthday party. We all want our kids to look good in the eyes of their peers and a great party only helps this cause.
One item that many parents forget when they are planning the perfect party is some sort of party favor. This need not be anything expensive or fancy. In fact, I find that something like a bag of tasty goodies makes for a real treat. Most kids don’t really want more than candy and they will be more than happy with that.
A great party goody bag should have a few ingredients. It obviously needs some sort of candy, although the candy need not be anything too pricey. Candy that your child might want if they were going to the corner grocery market will work just fine. I also recommend some sort of little toy. This could be anything small, like a little ring or action figure. If your party has some sort of theme try to plan the contents of the bag around that theme. For example, if you have a spiderman cake look for a small spiderman action figure for your goody bags.
Have your birthday child put a little handwritten note in each of the goody bags. This makes the goody bag more than just a grab bag of treats. It shows some personal attention and care. It can also be a good way to thank the other children for coming to the party and for giving presents. This kind of gesture can also make a good impression on the children’s parents.
Select an appropriate bag for your bag of goodies. A plain paper sack is rather boring. I recommend finding something exciting and brightly colored. You can probably find bags that have pictures of movie characters or comic book characters on them. Another more creative idea is to decorate the bags yourself. Write the child’s name on the side of the bag and draw a fun picture of them. This will add a personal touch and increase the excitement about the contents of the bag.
These are just a few of many ideas for your goofy bags. Obviously you should brainstorm with your child to find other, perhaps more creative, ideas. Experiment from year to year until you have the best combination. The right gift bags will make your party a big hit. The wrong ones will label it as lame and boring.
Think back to parties your child has been to, what items did they enjoy getting in a goody bag? Would it be difficult or too expensive to incorporate similar items into yours? If not, do so!
