In addition for a successful kid’s craft party you will want to have a variety of craft projects to offer them. Also you want to make sure that you have everything you need for every project so that you do not have to leave the party to run to the craft store. You will also want to make sure to have plenty of adult help on hand. Figure on at least one adult for about every 4-5 kids more if the kids are younger and possibly less if the kids are older. Then once you have everything in place just step back and let the kids create their craft masterpieces. Here are some great ideas for children’s craft party projects-
Shrink plastic-This is great fun to use and usually appeals to children of all ages. The specially formulated plastic shrinks when it is heated and can be purchased at your local craft store. This material is perfect for making charms that can be used in jewelry and in a wide range of other items.
You will need:
- Sheets of shrink plastic
- Rubber stamps
- Ink pads
- Pens, pencils and paints to add color
- Scissors
- Hole Punch
- Other items as required (key fob, necklace chain etc.)
You should keep in mind that as shrink plastic needs to be heated in order for it to shrink it will be necessary to have an adult or two to hand to help with this part of the activity. Shrink plastic can be shrunk either with a heat tool or in an oven. Simply have the kids cut out and decorate whatever they want from the shrink plastic. Heat the plastic according to the manufacturer’s directions. Let cool completely and then string onto chains, key holders etc.
Party Bags-There is no reason to spend lots of money on themed party bags. Simply purchase plain party bags at your local craft store. Then you can include stamps and cutouts that fit the theme of the party or simply use whatever you want to decorate the bags. Kids love to use rubber stamps. You can also lay out other bits and pieces of ribbon, trim, lace and glitter to let them fully decorate their party bags. Be sure to write everyone’s name on the bottom of their bag when they are drying. Then when your party guests go to leave they have a one of kind original bag to take home full of craft projects and other treats from the party.
Party Hats-No party would be complete without paper hats! This is suitable craft for children of all ages. Very young children may need a lot of close supervision; however older children can design and make their own hats. These paper hats can be decorated with a wide variety of rubber stamps and embellished with glitter glue, sequins and other adornments.
You will need:
- Paper or cardstock
- Glue or sticky tape
- Scissors
- Rubber stamps and ink pads
- Glitter glue, marker pens, sequins, feathers, ribbons and anything else that will add a great finishing touch to a hat!
Depending on the age of the children, you can either want to cut the hats out before they arrive or allow the children to do this themselves. To make a hat cut a strip of paper to go round the child’s head and cut points into this to make a crown. Have the child decorate the hat with rubber stamps and other embellishments. When these are dry then you can join the two edges of the hat together with glue and tape to finish. You may also want to add a ribbon to tie under the chin to keep the hats from falling off!
