Tweens definitely look forward to being a teenager and because turning 13 is so significant, the 13th birthday party is one of the most important birthday parties of a child’s life. However, just because the 13th birthday party needs to be special and stand out compared to past birthday parties, does not mean it has to break the bank. This article discusses inexpensive 13th birthday party ideas that are great whether the party is for a birthday girl or a birthday boy.
Movie theatre, at home
Most kids love watching movies for their birthday party. But instead of forking out the cash on the tickets, popcorn and soda at an actual movie theatre, a parent can bring the movie theatre to their home for the birthday party.
Parents can get theatre style microwave popcorn at the grocery store as well as theatre candy and soda for much less compared to purchasing it at the theatre. The feature flick, or flicks, can be rented online or at the local video/DVD rental store and the film can be shown on the regular family television. Many people may have, or may know someone who has, a projector. If they can get a hold of one of these for the movie night it can make the party even more like a real movie theater.
If the family has some old movie posters in the house, these can be put up around the room for fun decoration.
Scavenger hunt
A scavenger hunt is a great inexpensive 13th birthday party idea. The parent needs to supply a list of things that the kids need to find/gather from around the neighborhood. Then the kids can go around the neighborhood, knocking on the neighbor’s doors to see if they have any of the items on the list. It can be things like a shoe lace, a crumpled piece of paper, a pencil or just random and fun things!
There are many twists to the scavenger hunt idea. For example, the kids can do a picture scavenger hunt. The kids at the 13th birthday party can be split into groups and then each group is given a disposable camera. Then they are given a list with items from around the neighborhood. The kids have to find these items and then take a picture of them. The kids should have a certain time limit and when that time limit is up they should return back to the house. While the kids are eating ice cream and cake, the pictures can get developed at the local ½ hour photo. Then they can compare the pictures to see which team won!
Another option for a scavenger hunt party could be at a grocery store. The parent should prepare small pieces of paper with clues written on them. The clues should describe items in the grocery store. The kids should be divided into teams and each team has a grocery basket or cart. Then they draw a clue and try to find the right item. When the time is up they can see who has the right items in their baskets.
Outdoor activities
Some great and inexpensive 13th birthday party ideas can include a lot of fun outdoor activities. Sledding and swimming are two really fun things to do for birthday parties and they don’t have to cost very much. It can also be fun to play volleyball in the backyard or have a BBQ and roast marshmallows over a fire.
Sleepovers
Sleepovers are fun and inexpensive. They can be the party, or they can be combined with other activities such as outdoor activities, a movie or a scavenger hunt. 13 year old girls love to stay up late and talk about boys and makeup with their friends. And 13 year old boys love to stay up with their friends and play video games or watch movies; so a sleepover for a 13th birthday party is definitely a great idea.
