You can really go all out for a birthday party. Some people are even competitive when it comes to throwing parties for their children’s birthday. There are possible equipment rentals, the cost of food, party favors, decorations and the list goes on. Pretty soon, a simple birthday party could become a serious financial setback. You are probably like most people in that you want to throw the best birthday party possible, but your budget is such that most things outside of a cake and some decorations are out of your reach. Not to fear! There are hundreds of ways to make your child’s birthday one that they will never forget without spending a fortune.
Take advantage of imagination
One of the biggest facts that you can use to your advantage when planning a child’s birthday party is the child’s ability to be imaginative. As adults, we have developed extremely high expectations for ourselves. We can very easily spot what is real versus what is imaginary. Children, on the other hand, have a much less discerning eye. While you may think that your child who loves cars might want a real exotic car ride for his birthday, your child’s expectations are much lower. In fact, that child might be just as happy playing a game where he makes his own car out of cardboard boxes, paper plates and markers. Most children from average income homes have developed the ability for imaginative play. They can see the potential of average things around them. Take advantage of this. Toddlers are especially easy to please. The simplest shapes can be more exciting than the most expensive decorations. Don’t make things harder on yourself. Even the seemingly basic of ideas can be exactly what your child will love.
Make it yourself
When throwing a party, there are some things that you cannot make on your own. You will most likely have to buy some paper plates and cups as well as some food and drinks. While that might set you back a little bit, imagine how much more expensive it would be were you to hire someone else to do all the work for you. There are many places out there that advertise their ability to provide a party atmosphere that will, for some reason, be a lot better than what you are able to come up with at home. Sure, you probably do not have arcade games at home, but all of the little things that those companies come up with and charge a great deal of money for can be recreated by you. Instead of throwing a party at a pizza parlor, buy the ingredients and make the pizza yourself, or better yet, allow each of the children to make their own individual pizzas. You can make your own party favors by gathering little gifts or treats and putting them in a bag yourself. Buying ready-make favors may save you a small amount of time and effort, but chances are you will be paying much more and getting less.
Relax
Remember that parties are supposed to be fun! When you throw a party for a child or any other special person, you are doing so because there is reason to celebrate that person. Do not put yourself in the situation of being so stressed out about money and time that you do not enjoy the party itself. When it comes down to it, few people will remember how expensive a party looked, what they will remember is how they felt. If you can keep that in mind, you may be surprised at just how affordable throwing a thoughtful birthday party can be.
